Transforming the patient experience with telehealth in Europe

Evidence and decision making for better and more efficiently caring citizens: going beyond pilots

Monday 24 March 2014

A joint session of 3 EU large scale pilots will be held on: Wednesday 14th May 2014 14:00 – 16:00 as part of the eHealth Forum

Session Abstract: We learn from the past looking the future with a vision: in order to reduce hospitalisations and healthcare cost and to improve clinical and Quality of Life outcomes, several large scale projects have been launched with the financial support of EC to deploy innovative telemedicine services & integrated care services in real life and in almost all the European regions. The objective of these projects is not only to provide evidence of clinical effectiveness and quality of life improvement of specific interventions in different settings and but also to asses economic and organisational outcomes as well. The experience of Renewing Health is demonstrating that some evidence can be provided through an RTC approach, but that to better assess the economic and organisational impact, one need to use a real-life based approach. This is one of the lessons both United4health and Smart Care have learned and are applying, with Smart Care adding the social care dimension to the health care one.
