 The 5TH YPE covers the areas of Thessaly and Central Grrece and is responsible for the uniform management, coordination, supervision and control of operations for all the healthcare and social services providers of Thessaly and Central Greece.

The jurisdiction of the 5TH YPE coincides with the administrative boundaries of the two distrcts,  The entities that 5TH YPE supervises are;

  • 13 Hospitals
  • 32 Health Centres – for primary healthcare provision
  • 282 peripeheral surgeries – for primary healthcare provision
  • 4 Centres for Mental Health

e-Trikala

Since 2004, the e-trikala office, in cooperation with and in the line of the operational program “The Information Society” is acting in the fields of new broadband technologies, successfully implementing municipal projects. On the 8th of April, 2008, having the required experience, it was transformed into e-Trikala S.A., an emerging company, formed within the Municipality of Trikala. The Municipality is the basic stakeholder owning 99% while the rest 1% is owned by the local Chambers of Commerce.

By creating infrastructure and by providing services, e-Trikala continuously aims to the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based applications, oriented to the improvement of all citizens’ everyday life, in a medium sized city, simplifying public transactions, reducing telecommunication costs and delivering new services related to the local way of life. Moreover, these ICT applications offer new ways and methods that enable citizens participate on policy-making, while in parallel establish local Government and Public Authorities as guarantors of local society’s every day proper, digital and distanced operation.

E-Trikala S.A. operates upon a fully integrated basis while, as the First Digital City in Greece (proclaimed in 2004 by the Minister of Economics, Mr. Folias), it establishes high technological and broadband National standards by using and offering its “know-how” to other municipalities within Greece. The company’s main areas of expertise are:

3. e-health

4. mobility

5. e-government & e-democracy

6. geographical information systems

7. networks (Wi-Fi, fiber optic, Wi-Max pilot application & operation)

8. event planning & organizing (exhibitions, conferences, galas)

E-Trikala is responsible for the teleHealth Project of the Municipality of Trikala. In particular, the TeleHealth center provides telemonitoring services to chronic patients and the elderly.

Digital Cities of Central Greece SA

CitiesNet SA (http://citiesnet.gr) is an Inter-Municipal Development Enterprise, which includes ten large cities from ten different regions in Central Greece, one of which is Trikala, while the president of this Inter-Municipal SA is the Mayor of Trikala. The other nine are Larissa, Volos and Karditsa, which pose the Prefecture of Thessaly (along with Trikala), Veria, Kozani, Grevena and Katerini, which are part of the Prefecture of Macedonia, Lamia which is part of the Prefecture of Sterea Ellada and Ioannina which is part of the Prefecture of Epirus. In total, the catchment area of these cities approximates 2,000,000 people, nearly one fifth of the Greek population. Among the ten cities there has been developed strong relationships and cooperation mostly (but not only) in ICT issues, especially when concerning e-Health issues and the development of the municipal wireless networking, where identical policies have been applied for all city-members.

Hellenic Ministry of Administration Reform and E-Governance

The mission of the Hellenic Ministry of Administration Reform and E-Governance (MAREG) is the planning and implementation of government policy in the following sectors:

  • Organization of public administration at central and regional level.
  • The management and the development of human resources
  • The modernization of Public Administration through the use of information and communication technologies and the improvement of the quality in services provided to the citizens.

Horizontal infrastructures for E-Government and e-Health are up on to the competency of the Ministry. For the purpose of this project the ministry will also collaborate with the Hellenic Ministry of Health, which is responsible for the Health Policy in Greece.
